Quarantine & Chill

ABOUT

Are you stuck inside avoiding COVID-19 like the rest of us? Of course you are. Now’s the perfect time to try our Quarantine & Chill: our green goddess of a cocktail that not only tastes amazing, but is also good for you.

Our Quarantine & Chill gets its vivid green hue from none other than Matcha tea. Matcha, the Japanese green tea, is made from the Camellia sinensis tea plant. Unlike your regular green tea, Matcha is 100% shade grown green tea leaves that have been ground into a fine powder. As a result, Matcha is full of antioxidants and has higher levels of both chlorophyll and amino acid which are thought to: work as an anti-aging remedy, treat acme, reduce body odor, help heal surgical wounds and treat infections, as well as have the potential to treat certain types of cancers.

Please note that like most green teas, Matcha does contain caffeine. In fact, since Matcha is made from crushed whole green tea leaves, it contains as much caffeine as a cup of brewed coffee. However, unlike caffeine from your cup of joe, Matcha creates a “calm alertness" — all without the coffee highs and crashes. You can thank the animo acid L-Theanine which boosts mental performance and promotes relaxation without drowsiness. Some benefits of L-Theanine are believed to include: better mental focus, improved sleep, increased cognitive performance, weight loss, a reduction in blood pressure, as well as a boost in the immune system. While Matcha is jam-packed with benefits, you should definitely drink it in moderation.

The base spirit for this drink is Bluecoat Gin. If you are out of gin, you can definitely opt for vodka. We tried this cocktail with Effen’s Cucumber Flavored Vodka and it was just as delicious. Next up we made a citrus juice with freshly squeezed lemon and limes to pair with the tea. We also used a homemade Rose Gomme Syrup (see recipe below) as a floral, fragrant sweetener to take this cocktail to the next level.

This drink is served in a 12 oz. mason jar or a highball glass. A citrus wedge or wheel garnish is optional.
